Marble Lodge offers fully Hosted Luxury Accommodation where breakfasts are served to you by candlelight in the Homestead dining room.  All this is just one hours drive from Adelaide - in the hills and heart of the Barossa Valley. Your host, owner / operator Shirley Rohrlach, has a fine eye for detail to ensure that your stay at Marble Lodge is one that you will remember for a lifetime. She recently published her autobiography ‘The Second Daughter’, a fascinating story of growing up on the family farm near Mintaro, South Australia, the tomboy who helped dad in the shearing shed or trapped rabbits rather than help mother in the house. The story tells of the challenges of building an earthmoving business from scratch to working underground in an opal mine, a hard working wife and mother who was willing to give anything a go in order to make a  business success. No one else’s mother could drive a bulldozer let alone talk about crankshafts or pistons! Her husband was  persuaded to take a lucrative contract to work overseas that resulted in his death from a mining accident in Brazil.  Widowed at 37, once more she threw herself into work, eventually marrying second husband Kevin Rohrlach and settling into life in Angaston as “the wicked step-mother” of his 6 children. In time came the rewards of travel, but then another tragic accident claimed the life of her second husband after 20 years together. An extraordinary life of love and loss, strength and determination and a wit and style readers will enjoy immensely.  The writing is consistently compelling and frequently skilfully descriptive.
